Why Nets?
- Malaria Kills- Malaria is the largest killer of children in Africa. Every 30 seconds an African child dies from a malaria infection transmitted by a mosquito bite.
- Nets save lives - Malaria can be prevented through a simple, inexpensive measure: sleeping each night under a net treated with insecticides that kill mosquitos or stop them from biting.
- Helping is easy. Send a Net. Save a Life. - A donation of $10 to Nothing But Nets covers the cost of purchasing a long lasting insecticide-treated bed net, distributing it and educating communities on its use. A long lasting insecticide-treated net remains effective for at least four years.
- Nothing But Nets is saving lives. - Nothing But Nets - a global, grassroots campaign to save lives by delivering long-lasting insecticide-treated nets to prevent malaria - has engaged over 70,000 individuals and raised more than $20 million. These efforts are saving lives, but we still have more work to do.
- The distribution of bed nets is the fulfillment of a commitment made by Bishop Janice Huie on behalf of the people of the United Methodist church at the Clinton Global Initiative in September of 2007.
- We are working together to make a difference. - The United Methodist Church of Cote d'Ivoire, the Texas Annual Conference and the UN Foundation have formed a dynamic partnership to combat malaria in Africa by raising funds to purchase life-saving bed nets through the Nothing But Nets campaign. By working together, we are able to leverage our donations to send more nets and save more lives.
- The UN Foundation and the Texas Annual Conference together with other donors have funded over 1 million nets to be distributed to children and their families throughout Cote d'Ivoire.
"We pray through our partnership that God will bring about the next generation of healthy children," said Bishop Janice Riggle Huie, leader of the Texas Annual Conference. Bishop Huie, who will be with the team in Africa, also stated, "We, too, pray that we will be a part of a partnership that acts on the command to love our neighbors as ourselves."
